Over 1,000 women receive employment assistance thanks to a project helping victims of domestic violence
Over one thousand women from different parts of the country who suffered domestic violence or are potential victims of such violence have received assistance to obtain a job and even start their own businesses as part of a project of complex services. The “Economic Empowerment of Vulnerable Women in Moldova” Project was launched in July 2011 and is now coming to an end, Info-Prim Neo reports.
UNFPA Director for Moldova Ian McFarlane on Monday stated at a news conference summing up the project that more than two-thirds of women in Moldova faced some form of violence against them during their lifetime, and those fighting this phenomenon should strengthen their message to make a difference.
Ian McFarlane said it's important to join efforts to curb the phenomenon. “You can really bring about change when different types of organizations come together. When you have the government, interngovernmental organizations, NGOs and the private sector, you can harness many talents and resources to make a change in people's lives”.
The project aimed to ensure sustainable integration in the labor market of vulnerable women, including victims of domestic violence by creating opportunities for training and employment or self employment. During the project, women have benefited from guidance and counseling, mediation for employment, vocational training and non-cash grants to start up businesses.
The “Economic Empowerment of Vulnerable Women in Moldova” Project was implemented by the UNFPA with the support Orange Moldova Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family. The project budget was $105,000.
