More than 120 NGOs called upon Parliament to continue the process of selecting candidates for the post of People’s Ombudsperson and People’s Ombudsperson for Child Rights. The signatory NGOs remind that the process of selecting the two ombudspersons, which was launched last May, hasn’t been yet finished, IPN reports.
The signatories note that as a result of public hearings and the interviewing of candidates, there were selected by two candidates for each post (Mihail Cotorobai/Ion Manole and Maia Banarescu/Jana Costachi), with civil society supporting two of them (Ion Manole and Jana Costachi).
On July 21, 2014, the candidates chosen at the contest were examined in Parliament, but the process remained unfinished. Civil society calls on the legislative body to continue the process initiated in 2014 and to inform beforehand the candidates and the general public about the plenary sitting of Parliament where the candidates will be questioned.
