Fines totaling 220,000 lei were collected into the state budget so far this year from drivers who used expired vignettes. The border police established that many of the drivers presented invalid vignettes out of ignorance or intentionally, over 200 such cases being recorded in all, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Border Police says from January 1, 2017, it can check if the tax for using the national roads (vignette) by motor vehicles that weren’t registered in Moldova was paid on time. To prevent difficulties in crossing the state border, the drivers are warned to meet the deadlines and duly pay this tax into the state budget so as to avoid being fined.
Until April 1, 2017, the road tax by motor vehicles registered abroad can be paid at the customs body.
From 2017, the vignette for seven days costs €4, for 15 days – €8, as in 2016, for 30 days - €16, up €2 on 2016, for 90 days – €45, up €15, while for 180 days - €85, by €35 more. If the deadline of 180 days is not met, the drivers pay for vignette €180 for each next 180 days of stay in Moldova.
