Over 200 Palanca inhabitants stage protest

More than 200 residents of Palanca village of Stefan Voda district protested during three hours on Friday. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Mayor of Palanca Larisa Voloc said the people seek explanations from the authorities about the 8 km of road ceded to Ukraine. Larisa Voloc said the protest was peaceful, but the people are dissatisfied with the present situation and want explanations. “Nobody came to provide explanations. We cannot demand that the signed documents be annulled, but somebody should come and tell the people what will happen to this territory,” said the mayor. A general assembly of the village was fixed for July 2. The villagers are to decide whether to continue the protests or not. On June 30, the Border Guard Service issued a communiqué, announcing that the joint group of experts of Moldova and Ukraine started to set up frontier signs near Palanca. A decision to this effect was taken in the 41st meeting of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border demarcation commission. There were agreed the places near Palanca where the frontier signs will be built up, in accordance with the State Border Treaty between Moldova and Ukraine of August 18, 1999.
