Over 200 tennis players fighting for Moldova’s champion title

More than 200 tennis players are taking part in the National Tennis Championship held between June 11 and 17. “The best tennis players of the country and those who train in such states as the U.S., Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic, but represent Moldova at international tournaments will fight for the title of national champion,” Mariana Tauber, president of the Moldovan Football Federation, said in the opening of the championship on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mariana Zolotko, the President’s adviser on political matters and European integration, read a message from the head of state, where Nicolae Timofti says that the tennis is a beautiful and spectacular sport. “The aptitudes developed by tennis such as speed, power, resistance, ability to orientate oneself in space and time are necessary not only in sports, but also in the daily life,” reads the message. The President pledged to support the Moldovan tennis so that it becomes more valuable. Attending the opening of the championship, MP Chiril Lucinschi, who heads the commission on culture, education, youth and sport, wished the participants success. A number of professional players who represent Moldova, including Roman Borvanov, Radu Albot, and Maxim Dubarenko, will not be able to take part in the national championship as they are competing in international tournaments. The National Tennis Championship is held once a year for a week. The best sportspersons will be awarded trophies, medals and titles of Master of Sport on the last day of the competition.
