The novel coronavirus claimed more than 252,000 lives in the over 200 countries affected by COVID-19. Almost 70,000 deaths were reported in the U.S. alone. The United States is also leading by the number of infections, with 1.2 million cases of the over 3.6 million recorded globally, IPN reports.
Among the European states, Spain reported the largest number of infections – over 248,000. It also reported 25,400 deaths associated with the novel coronavirus.
Italy and the UK recorded the largest number of deaths from COVID-19 in Europe – 29,000 and 28,700, respectively.
France reported 25,200 deaths, while Germany – 6,900.
China, where the epidemic started, has over 82,000 infections and 4,633 deaths.
The neighboring state Romania logged over 13,000 infections and 818 deaths. Ukraine reported more than 12,000 infections and 316 deaths. Russia has over 145,000 infections and 1,356 deaths.
Moldova has got 4,248 infections with COVID-19 and 133 deaths associations with the novel coronavirus by May 5.
