More than 60% of Moldovans do not generally go on vacation or at least have not been anywhere in the last two years. They didn’t even holiday at home. It goes to the elderly, especially from rural areas, without education. On the other hand, 3.5% of Moldovans go on vacation for several times a year, both in the country and abroad. It goes to young people from cities, with studies, shows an opinion poll conducted by CBS Research and commissioned by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”, IPN reports.
“Viitorul” expert Veaceslav Ioniță, who presented the survey today, said that 70.3% of the Moldovans answered that they did not go on vacation in 2023. Asked if they were or plan to go on vacation this year, 71.3% said that they were not and do not plan.
“The number of employees who go to rest is decreasing. The number of those who declare that they work unofficially has suddenly increased, but the number of those who face much greater holiday poverty has also increased. We see an increase in the number of those who will not be able to go on vacation this year. We have a negative trend. Last year, of those who work, 538,000 could not afford to go on vacation. This year, their number will increase by 17,000 to 555,000 people who work, officially or unofficially, but cannot afford to go on vacation,” said the economist.
According to Veaceslav Ioniță, when a person cannot afford to go on a vacation, it is called holiday poverty. When a working person cannot afford to go on vacation, they do not rest, do not revitalize their strength, and their capacity to work is quite precarious.
