Over 60 people died in fires in Moldova during the first four months of this year, with another 16 persons being injured in these. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, about 75% of the 684 fires that occurred so far this year happened in the residential sector, IPN reports.
According to a study carried out by the Inspectorate, the non-observance of the fire safety rules when using stoves and smoke evacuation channels, arson and careless smoking are the leading causes of fire.
Almost 70 exceptional situations occurred in the period in Moldova, with 57 of them being technogenic in character and the rest being natural ones. No person died in these.
Nineteen cases of poisoning with carbon monoxide emitted by stoves and boilers and 20 cases of poisoning with carbon monoxide emitted by natural gas heating equipment were reported in January-April.
The rescuers in the period conducted six operations to take out persons who fell into wells and saved two persons.
In total, the Inspectorate’s subdivisions performed 14,575 operations, 8,581 missions to extinguish fires, 1,091 rescue operations and eight SMURD operations.
