Over 80 % of environment impurities generated by vehicles
Transport means have undergone active development, involving gradual risks. Over 80 % of the harmful environmental factors are now generated by transport. It can result in risks related to a high level of noise, traffic jams, and fatal traffic accidents. The president of the Preventive Medicine National Center, Oleg Benes, referred to this problem at a subregional specialty seminar, focused on transport problems in the East and South-East Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Vladimir Garaba, the president of the Chisinau Territorial Organization of the Ecological Movement from Moldova, said that “ the traffic is gradually growing in the city, and, as a result, air pollution is growing. Now we lack any information about the cars' impact on the environment, and no analysis of air quality is made. That is why, the authorities can not make decisions about urban planning concerning the traffic,” Vladimir Garaba says.
According to the director of the National Scientific, Practical Center of the Urgent Medicine, Gheorghe Ciobanu, along with transport development, the number of accidents grows. 450 fatal cases are registered each year.
The seminar, unfolded in Chisinau in October from 29 to 30, proposes to find efficient long and short-term solutions to these problems, so that the economic and peculiarly transport development would not harm health. At the seminar, they worked on the problems concerning challenges for sustainable and healthy transport, identifying and implementing new strategies to reduce the negative impact of the risk factors caused by the transport development.
The seminar was attended by experts from 20 countries which are members of the World Health Organization, Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, local public authorities.
