Package of anti-tobacco laws submitted to Parliament

The Government’s press service announced that the package of anti-tobacco laws that the executive approved earlier was sent to Parliament for consideration. Smoking in closed and semi-closed public places, at the workplace and in public transport will be banned, IPN reports.

The bills lay down penalties both for managers of places where smoking is banned and for smokers. In the final variant, the laws provide that the kiosks selling tobacco products must be located at a distance of minimum 200 meters between them and at a distance of 50 meters from education and medical-sanitary institutions. The sale of tobacco products and products that contain nicotine in retail outlets between 10pm and 8am is banned.

The sale of tobacco products to minors is also prohibited. The vendors will have to check the buyer’s age. Bans are also imposed on the sale of tobacco products through machines and on their exhibition in commercial places accessible to the public.

The package of anti-tobacco laws was approved by the Cabinet on December 17, 2013.
