Passport issuing procedure will be simplified
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration decided to simplify the procedure for obtaining passports through Moldova's embassies and consulates abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the ICT Ministry.
“We aim to facilitate the procedure for issuing passports to the Moldovans who are temporarily abroad, including those who gained or regained Moldovan nationality,” Minister of Information and Communication Technology Alexandru Oleinic said.
The Moldovans who are abroad will be able to submit applications for obtaining passport through the agency of the embassies and consulates when the period of validity of the document expires and when it is stolen or lost.
The applications accepted by the embassies and consulates will be sent to the state-run document validation company “Registru” for personalization. The Foreign Ministry will make sure that the applications and passports reach the destination, while the ICT Ministry will monitor the passport issuing process.
The order on the issuing of passports through Moldova's embassies and consulates abroad will come into force after published in the Official Gazette. The applications will be processed during 30 days.
At Wednesday's meeting of the Government, Premier Vlad Filat ordered approving a decision whereby to facilitate the obtaining of identification papers by the Moldovans who are abroad. He said that now they need powers of attorney to be issued with passports in Moldova through the agency of another person and the costs incurred are three times higher than the basic charges.
