Patients will co-finance reorganization of hospitals
The hospital assistance development program for 2010-2012 that was approved by the Government provides for the reduction of the hospital treatment period by making the treatment more efficient. At the same time, the number of treated patients will be increased, said Minister of Health Vladimir Hotineanu, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The program envisions reorganizing the hospitals. There will be wards for patients suffering from chronic diseases, rehabilitation wards, palliative care wards, long-term care wards, etc. 10% of the yearly revenues collected in the hospitals' reserve funds will be used to implement the program. The patients will co-finance some of the services.
On January 1, 2010, Moldova had 34 district hospitals, ten municipal hospitals, 18 national hospitals, ten public departmental hospitals and ten private hospitals with a total of 20,021 beds. The ratio was 2.32 hospitals – 612.04 beds per 100,000 people, as against 2.58 – 625.49 in the EU. The hospital treatment period was ten days, in contrast to 7.5 days in the EU. Half of the hospitals are situated in Chisinau.
