Patrol inspector to stand trial

A patrol inspector who a year ago, while driving under the influence, caused a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a passenger will stand trial. The Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office finished the investigation and sent the case to court, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last June the policeman was driving a BMW car under the influence of alcohol and had two passengers in the car. While speeding on the R2 road from Chetrosu village of Anenii Noi district towards Chisinau, he tried to overtake a car, but lost control of his vehicle and hit laterally another car traveling in the same direction. As a result of the impact, the BMW car overturned and was projected into a tree. One of the passengers died. This was 26 and was a service member. To escape punishment, the police moved the passenger’s body at the steering wheel. As the alleged culprit died, the criminal case was dropped.

Later, the Prosecutor General’s Office ordered a DNA test in Romania. The recent conclusions of the Romanian experts confirmed the prosecutors’ suspicion that the car was driven by the policeman when the accident occurred.

After over a year of the tragic accident, the patrol inspector was arrested and charged. He faces four to eight years in jail and ban on driving for a period of four to five years. Other persons who hid the truth in this case are under investigation.
