The Democratic Party (PDM) will insistently promote the bill to introduce the uninominal voting system and the bill to annul the parliamentary immunity until they are passed by Parliament, the president of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc stated after the meeting of the party’s National Political Council held in the evening of April 12, IPN reports.
According to Vlad Plahotniuc, the promotion of the two initiatives was included in a resolution that was supported by most of the members of the National Political Council of the PDM. “The PDM reasserts its wish to have the political class in the Republic of Moldova reformed by introducing the uninominal voting system and eliminating parliamentary immunity. From now on, the leadership of the PDM has a broad power to promote these bills until they are adopted in the final reading. In the immediate future, we will have discussions with our coalition partners to secure their support for the bill on uninominal voting in Parliament and for the proposal to eliminate the parliamentary immunity,” stated the Democratic leader.
He also said that the current electoral system is outdated and does not meet people’s expectations. Opinion polls and the signatures collected from people show that the citizens no longer want to vote party lists and want to elect the MPs by uninominal constituencies.
The National Political Council also approved the party’s Integrity Code and chose the deputy chairpersons of the PDM. These are: Andrian Candu, Alexandr Cauia, Valentina Buliga, Sergiu Sarbu, Marian Lupu, Sergey Iaralov, Cristina Balan, Valentina Stratan, Vladimir Vitiuc, Alexandru Botnari, Eleonora Graur, and Vladimir Cebotari.
