Peace won 66 years ago is due to heroism of World War II veterans, PCRM

“The peace that has lasted for 66 years is due to the heroism of the veterans of the Second World War. The decades pass and the direct significance of this event becomes clearer. It is now evident that the world war that led to the total destruction of Nazism represented a culminating point in the development of mankind. Indubitably, the Victory of May 9, 1945 became a symbolic frontier that makes the existence of fascism and the destruction of whole nations and states impossible,” it is said in a statement issued by the Communist Party (PCRM) before May 9,” Info-Prim Neo reports. The statement says that this war for the Moldovan people was a serious challenge, as for the other European nations. Thousands of Moldovans were awarded medals and orders, dozens of them became Heroes of the Soviet Union and holders of the Order of Glory for their heroic deeds in the fight against Nazism. “It is obvious that any other denouement would have led to the disappearance of civilization, mankind, culture and morals that the people carefully transmitted from generation to generation during centuries. The millions of victims represent the imaginable, but only possible price that was paid by our fathers and grandfathers and by the participants in that cruel war,” says the PCRM. The Communist Party regrets that the number of war veterans decreases every year, but there are stronger voices trying to diminish the importance of the Great Victory. “Those who try to wipe out the monuments to those who died and to destroy the historical memory of the Moldovan people usurped the state power. The keeping of Moldova’s independence and sovereignty is due namely to the Victory. They did not forget that the first Constitution of the Moldovan state – the Constitution of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic – was adopted in 1941 and destroyed during Moldova’s occupation by the Fascists. They do not forget that Moldovan people’s right to statehood was confirmed by the Paris Pact signed by the great world powers in 1947. They try to nullify this right and thus attack the monuments in memory of those who died and brainwash the young people with the help of cynical propaganda,” it is said in the statement. The PCRM reminds that this year it is 65 years of the Nurenberg Process, which condemned fascism as a crime against humanity. “Any attempt to lionize the fascist tyrants, starting with Antonescu and ending with the activists of the Iron Guard, represents not only a criminal review of the historical decisions of this international tribunal, but also an attack on human morality. Life showed that any plan of the persons who intend to destroy the memory of the Great Victory - the plan of Antonescu’s followers – is doomed to failure,” reads the statement. The party says that last year on May 9, 30,000 Chisinau residents took part in the Great Victory March and laid flowers in memory of those who win victory in the World War II of 1941-1945.
