Pensioners say they will protest until they are heard

A group of pensioners headed by “Salvgardare” Association chairwoman Maia Laguta are protesting in front of the Government. They demand, among other things, that the minimum pension be raised to 3,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. Earlier this month, members of “Salvgardare” asked the Parliament and the Government to set up a commission that will inspect utility providers Apa-Canal Chisinau, Moldovagaz, Union Fenosa and Termocom, which, according to Maii Laguta, accumulate millions of lei, but are not inspected by the state. “We will protest until we obtain what we ask for,” the leader of the pensioners said. “These companies belong to the people as they were built with people's money.” The protesters said the minimum pension should be increased to 3,000 lei because the minimum subsistence level is 5,000 lei. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the minimum subsistence level is slightly over 1,000 lei.
