Pensions for Moldovans who work legally in Germany

The Moldovans who will work legally in Germany for a period of at least five years and will contribute to the federal social insurance budget will be entitled to a pension from the German state. The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family of Moldova has signed a social security agreement with the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Germany, IPN reports.

Deputy Minister of Labor Viorica Dumbraveanu told a news conference that the goal of the agreement is to ensure a legal framework of social guarantees for Moldovans and Germans who work on the territory of one or both of the states.

According to Viorica Dumbraveanu, the Moldovans who will return to the country after working in Germany will be able to get the pension earned there in Moldova, following the determination of the combined insurance periods secured in both of the states. Each state will implement the national legislation in the field. This refers to old-age pensions, successor pensions, pensions for disability deriving from usual diseases and from accidents at work.

Both Moldova and Germany will calculate and pay pensions only for the period during which social insurance contributions were paid on the own territory. The pension will be transferred to the person at the place of residence.

State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Thorben Albrecht expressed his satisfaction with the fact that all the key aspects of the accord were agreed during one round of talks. As the negotiations ended swiftly, the agreement will start to be applied at this yearend already, when all the administrative arrangements take effect.
