During a week, between April 22 and 26, the people will be informed about the importance and advantages of vaccination within the campaign “Know, Check, Protect” that is conducted on the occasion of the European Immunization Week, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Health.
The campaign will promote every person’s right to vaccination against diseases and to life protection. According to the Ministry of Health, remarkable results were achieved in Moldova in avoiding diseases that can be prevented by vaccination.
Before vaccination was instituted, about 476 cases of paralytic poliomyelitis, 142 cases of tetanus and 588 cases of diphtheria were recorded annually. Owing to immunization, after 1993 there was recorded no case of poliomyelitis. Over the last ten years, there were reported only three cases of tetanus in unvaccinated persons.
In 2012-2013, rubella and measles had been imported from the neighboring countries, but these diseases didn’t spread in Moldova. Convulsive cough and mumps morbidity was reduced about 80 times, while morbidity from viral hepatitis B – 40 times.
