People's Advocate: press represents the Ombudsman’s right hand

Press represents the ombudsman's right hand in the performance of his duties, says Mihai Cotorobai. During a meeting with journalists, the ombudsman said that he learned about many situations of human rights violations from the press, IPN reports.

"I have an open attitude towards the media representatives since the first days of taking office. I called for a close collaboration between the media and the People's Advocate's Office,” Mihai Cotorobai said.

The People's Advocate is convinced that there is a need for a team of journalists specialized in human rights in the Republic of Moldova. "It requires a journalism able to think, analyse and state general system problems," the ombudsman said.

Mihai Cotorobai said that he would need to meet this team of journalists on regular basis. In this context, he proposed that, apart from the traditional New Year's meeting with journalists, there should be another 2-3 annual meetings, where news and decisions in the field of human rights could be discussed.

Mihai Cotorobai was appointed as Ombudsman in April 2015 for a 7-year term.
