The low voter turnout at the May 20 early mayoral elections showed the people’s disappointment and mistrust in the political forces. The People’s Will Party, whose constitution congress was held at the end of April, represents an alternative in this regard, said representatives of the new party who noted that if the people unite and offer support, the change in the state can be made because the will belongs to the people. In the runoff vote in Chisinau municipality, the People’s Will Party will support no candidate, but requests to ensure a correct electoral process and calls on the people to make a sensible choice.
“These elections showed that the voters, society are looking for new political forces. The absenteeism and the way in which the voters behaved show that these are waiting for a new political force and this force, from our viewpoint, was born on April 29 and is now in front of you,” chairman of the People’s Will Party Stefan Uratu said in a news conference at IPN.
According to him, the people’s confidence in these elections should be restored as the people’s will during the last few years has been systematically neglected. The electoral bodies should ensure a correct electoral process. The Central Election Commission should adjust the electoral legislation and its regulations and should also make sure that the data from the State Register of Voters are published online and should ensure the functionality of the state automated information system “Elections”, noted Stefan Uratu, who was a CEC member.
The party’s deputy head Ion Levinta said the economic situation, the situation in agriculture and other sectors worsened during the last few years. The people were impoverished by those who are now multi-millionaires, while the young people had to pledge their homes and go abroad to work, leaving only the elderly here. The People’s Will Party represents all the social sections and is ready to come up with solutions and with a plan of action to help the country overcome the difficult situation.
“We have two competitors in the runoffs. We hope the citizens in the municipality will vote reasonably and will state their wish to have a mayor who can bring about the change in the municipality,” stated the party’s secretary general Iurie Sobioala.
The representatives of the party also said that no matter who is elected, the citizens should attentively monitor the work of the future mayor.
