The partners of the Coalition “Without Barriers” will organize a new protest of the persons with disabilities against the inaccessibility of the Centru Court of Chisinau. This will be mounted at the entrance to the court on June 28. The partners of the Coalition “Without Barriers”, the Association “Motivatie” and the Center for Legal Assistance for Persons with Disabilities since February have fought the discrimination against persons with disabilities on grounds of access to justice, IPN reports.
Natalia Codrean, PR specialist of the Association “Motivatie”, said that the partners of the Coalition “Without Barriers” at the end of 2015 sued the Chisinau City Hall over non-observance of the accessibility requirements when repairing a segment of Grenoble St. The given dispute was to be examined by the Centru Court that is situated on the third floor of the building that houses the Centru district head’s office. When arranging the place of the hearing, the fact that this was inaccessible to some of the plaintiffs, who are disabled, was ignored. The place of the hearing was changed and this was to take place on the first floor, but the access of the persons in wheelchairs to the hearings wasn’t ensured as there are no ramps at the entrance to the building.
As they didn’t have access to the hearings, the persons with locomotor disabilities and visual impairments on June 8 protested in front of the Centru Court against the court decisions to hold the hearings in institutions without wheelchair access. The protesters demonstrated that they cannot enter the building and that hearing was postponed until June 28, but is to take place in the same room.
