PG opens investigation into aid distribution in 2008

The humanitarian aid intended for persons affected by floods in the summer of 2008 had been distributed with violations, the Prosecutor General's Office (PG) says in a communique, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office started three legal cases, one of which over misuse of power by decision makers of the Agency for Material Reserves, Public Procurement and Humanitarian Aid. They illegally distributed diesel fuel designed for flood victims to a number of economic entities. The damage caused was assessed at 2.6 million lei. The second case concerns the appropriation of about 38,000 lei from the money allocated for repairing and building homes for flood victims, by officials of SC Inep Luck SRL. In the third case, the Agency for Material Reserves, Public Procurement and Humanitarian Aid is investigated for embezzling 3.7 million lei intended for flood-hit persons. The PG asks anyone with any information about the illegal distribution of aid in the summer of 2008 to call 25 74 07. Earlier, the head of the parliamentary commission that investigated how the aid was distributed to flood victims in 2008, Liberal MP Gheorghe Brega said 26 million lei of the 64 million lei allotted for flood cleanup had disappeared.
