Piotr Gutsul: Parliament should be dissolved for not protecting consumer rights

Piotr Gutsul, president of the NGO “Consumer Protection”, says that the current government does not respect consumer rights and that many petitions concerning consumer rights violations remain unanswered for years by relevant authorities. According to him, that the current Parliament must be dissolved because it does not defend its citizens.

Piotr Gutsul told a press conference that in January 2009 the organization that he leads was challenged in court by the government and that the court ordered the organization to cease its activity for half a year. The decision was appealed and eventually reversed. According to Gutsul, misunderstandings arose after the organization conducted investigations into public money fraud. Gutsul says the authorities did not respond to referrals issued by the organization following the investigations.

“Consumer Protection” representatives addressed the Ministry of Internal Affairs after they received a letter regarding drug sales. According to Piotr Gutsul, no one reacted over the course of ten years.

The organization issued referrals regarding the decisions that require consumers to cover water loss costs. Piotr Gutsul said that it is the provider's job to protect their water networks. The consumer's responsibility involves paying for the consumed water, registered by water meters, based on direct contracts conclude between consumer and provider.

Piotr Gutsul said that he requested an audience with the prime minister, but was denied. He also petitioned opposition MPs; however, he did not receive a reply. “Do we need leadership and MPs who do not fulfill their direct obligations?,” asked Gutsul.

According to him, over the course of 30 years, the government abused public funds, while not providing for the country. During the next election cycle, the people have no one worthy to vote for. The organization received plenty of petitions regarding wrongdoings and rights violations. In his opinion, this is a result of "bandits being elected into government".

“I am ready to be elected in the next legislature. If you support me, I shall provide order to this country,” added Piotr Gutsul.
