The Liberal Party will support the PDM’s legislative initiative to enshrine the European integration course in the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova only together with the bill to amend Article 13 and replace the phrase “Moldovan language”” with “Romanian language”. The Liberal MPs drafted a new bill that combines the two initiatives, IPN reports.

“We keep the same position. The Liberal MPs will vote for the bill concerning the European integration path, but expect the same decision – to amend Article 13 – form the PDM,” the leader of the PL Mihai Ghimpu stated before the October 18 sitting of Parliament.

According to the Liberal leader, the extraparliamentary parties PAS and PPPDA were consulted about the issue to see their positions. “Both of the extraparliamentary parties support the position adopted by the PL and PLDM – Parliament should amend not only the Constitution’s preamble, but also Article 13. We should not bring shame on ourselves by speaking about the European integration with a false identity and a false language,” he noted.
