Three tonnes of contraband living fish transported in insanitary conditions were to be sold at a market in Chisinau. It is presumed that the fish was smuggled from the Transnistrian region.

The 34-year-old driver of the vehicle from Stefan Voda district could not present quality documents and certificates of origin for the merchandise, the Chisinau Police Division has said, quoted by IPN.

The police stopped the vehicle in Botanica district. The car was escorted to the police station, where a relevant report was compiled.

The confiscated fish will be used to make fodder. The three persons involved in this case face fines of 3,000 lei.
