Police officers postpone protests until after elections
The employees of the Ministry of the Interior put off the protests set to take place after the Easter holidays until after the June 5 local elections. Secretary of the trade union “Dignity” Adrian Lebedinski told Info-Prim Neo that a number of political parties attempt to politicize these protests.
“In order to avoid the involvement of police officers in political activities, we decided to postpone the protests until after the elections,” said Adrian Lebedinski.
The police announced protests following the adoption of amendments to the legislation, including the Retirement Law, which are to take effect on June 1, 2011.
Under the amendments, the police officers will be able to retire after a length of service of 25 years, not 20 years as until now.
