Paulina Iakimovski, senior specialist at the Traffic Police Division's PR department, said the fines varied between 400 and 1,000 lei, while the penalty points – between 3 and 5, depending on the speed at which the drivers were traveling Statistics show speeding was the cause of most of the road accidents that happened last year. Twenty-six persons were killed and 181 injured in the 126 accidents blamed on speeding that occurred this year. The special operation “Speed” is taking place between March 15 and 21.
