Two persons were apprehended by the police on suspicion that they sold goods without the required excise stamps. The police seized almost 46 tonnes of ethyl alcohol to the value of 5 million lei, IPN reports.

The ethyl alcohol was bought in large quantities from a plant situated in Sângerei district and was later illegally distributed on Moldova’s territory without documents of origin. Such alcohol was also smuggled to Ukraine.

Following special investigation measures, the police arrested three persons when they were buying 800 liters of ethyl alcohol. Simultaneously, the police carried out searches at the plant and at suspects’ domiciles.

The suspects were placed under arrest for 30 days. They face four to eight years in jail.

To recuperate the damage caused by the offense, there were seized three units of transport to the value of over 1.6 million lei owned by the suspects.
