The Chisinau police have seized pyrotechnical products valued at over 170,000 lei from vendors in the city's marketplaces who couldn't provide any documents of origin for the goods, IPN reports.

According the Chisinau Police, the officers discovered a Mercedes Sprinter in the Ciocana sector of the capital transporting a batch of fireworks. The 29 year old driver failed to produce any documents for his little cargo. Another vendor, aged 30, was arrested while selling fireworks at an improvised kiosk on Calea Iesilor Street. In both cases, the fireworks have been seized and sent to the police's special evidence store.

The two persons have been hit with 6000 lei fines each. The police announced an intensification of efforts to fight illegal trade in order to prevent the consequences of the use of counterfeit fireworks during the winter holidays.
