Population urged to show responsibility so as to prevent spread of COVID-19

The first confirmed cases of COVID-19 were cases of import, but now over half of them are cases of locally transmitted infection. “Regrettably, all the calls to show responsibility made to the population during a rather long period of time remained unheard,” Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu stated after the meeting of the National Focal Point on March 21, IPN reports.

The minister related that a person from Sângerei, who caught the novel coronavirus, celebrated the birthday in a circle of 27 persons. Currently, the authorities are taking steps to identify all those persons so that they respect the self-isolation regime at home.

A university student also got infected. Even if the educational process was suspended at all levels, many students asked to be allowed to remain in the dorm. As a result, a number of dwellers also caught the virus. A local outbreak was this way generated.

Viorica Dumbrăveanu also told about a trip made to a monastery in Ukraine. A number of 35 persons travelled to the monastery buy two buses and six cases of infection with COVID-19 among those passengers have been confirmed as a result.

“Regrettably, after four more cases of infection were confirmed yesterday, we had to initiate an epidemiological investigation so as to identify the persons who had been in contact and determined that a mother with a small child was admitted to a public health facility for children. They had been in the intensive care section for several days and didn’t inform the medical personnel that they had been in contact with a person who returned from a country affected by COVID-19. She admitted only after we found out that her husband and the second child were also hospitalized and these had been in contact with the person diagnosed with the virus,” stated the minister.

Viorica Dumbrăveanu called on the citizens to show responsibility, to present correct information and to take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A state of emergency was declared in Moldova for 60 days as of March 17. As many as 49 cases of infection with COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far. An infected woman died, while a patient is considered cured.
