Premier Chicu discusses with new ambassador of Japan

Over 40% of the modern agricultural machinery used in Moldova was bought with Japanese grants. Thirteen companies with Japanese capital operate in Moldova at present. In a meeting of Prime Minister Ion Chicu and the new Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Katayama Yoshihoro, the Moldovan official wished the diplomat success in fulfilling his duties and thanked for the technical and economic assistance provided by the Government of Japan in a difficult period of global crisis.

According to the Government’s press service, Premier Chicu reiterated Moldova’s interest in developing continuously the Moldovan-Japanese partnership in the political, commercial-economic, humanitarian and investment sectors.

“We welcome the intensification of the relations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan and consider it is important to extend bilateral cooperation. I encourage the Japanese investors to examine the opportunities offered by the 16 multifunctional industrial platforms that are to be created as part of the Program of Industrialization of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Premier.

For his part, the ambassador welcomed the Moldovan Government’s readiness to strengthen the economic cooperation and encouraged to continue on the path of European integration.

In 2020, the Government of Japan offered Moldova US$ 400,000 worth of grants for improving the equipment used to digitize the National Library of Moldova. The Japanese state also provided a concessional loan of about US$ 18.7 million in the framework of the Modernization of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Project.
