Premier concerned about rise in number of road accidents

The number of serious road accidents has increased, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in the opening of the March 2 meeting of the Cabinet. In this connection, he referred to the accident that happened recently near Edinet. This resulted in the death of three young people and the injuring of another five. The Premier specified that 6,952 traffic accidents were recorded in 2015. Most of these were caused by persons driving under the influence of alcohol. The police completed the investigations into 4,464 cases of these and sent them to prosecutors for examination, IPN reports.

“Of the total number of cases, 1,247 were dropped, 80 were closed, while 2,397 were sent to court and are still being tried. Also, 1,175 cases are dealt with by the police and the prosecutors and their fate is not yet clear too. You ask yourselves why I presented these statistical data. Because we have performed “white nights” operations during several years and showed how the police identify those who are driving under the influence on TV, but things haven’t changed,” said Pavel Filip.

He instructed the minister of the interior to present in a week a more efficient plan of action, with a clear view, and then to cooperate with the competent institutions to agree methods for implementing it.
