Premier urges Christians not to interfere in state affairs

Prime Minister Vlad Filat advises the Orthodox Christians protesting against the registration of Islam in Moldova not to interfere in the affairs of the state institutions. He said the registration of Islam is a condition imposed by the EU, while 70% of the Moldovans are in favor of joining the European Union, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The citizens of Moldova have the right to protest, but the state does not interfere in the affairs of the Church and the Church should also not interfere in the state affairs. Our strategic European integration objective cannot be interrupted because of the demands of a group or another,” said the Premier. Vlad Filat also said that if the population wants Moldova to become part of the EU, this objective shouldn’t be abandoned. “The European integration desideratum is backed by over 70% of the Moldovans and we should thus make effort to achieve it,” he stated. Hundreds of faithful persons and Orthodox Church officials from a number of districts protested Friday in Chisinau against the registration of Islam.
