The criminal case against the president of the Basketball Federation of Moldova, who is charged with misappropriation by swindle, was sent to court. Together with this, an electrician and a firm director will also stand trial for dispossessing a citizen of Slovakia of €210,000, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, pursuing the goal of dispossessing the Slovak citizen, the suspects convinced this to invest €340,000 in the construction of a multifunctional sports complex on Trandafirilor St in Chisinau for the National Basketball Federation, even if the Federation didn’t have ownership rights over the land where the complex was to be erected and authorization for construction.

The Slovak citizen, holding the post of manager of a company, transferred money to the accounts of the Basketball Federation of Moldova as an advance for starting the complex designing works.

The culprits were arrested two month ago and are investigated under house arrest. They face up to 15 years in jail.

It should be noted that an investigation officer of the National Anticorruption Center was arrested a month ago after asking and receiving €100,000 from the president of the Basketball Federation of Moldova for hushing up the given case. At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the officer was remanded in custody and is being investigated.
