President rejects two judicial appointments
President Nicolae Timofti has rejected two judicial appointments made by the Superior Council of Magistracy: Judge Oxana Banari for deputy chair of the Donduseni District Court, and Judge Aurelia Parpalac for chair of the Bender Court of Appeals, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Presidential spokesperson Vlad Turcanu told a news briefing that in Oxana Banari's case, the President had doubts as to her moral integrity. In particular, Judge Banari's husband was found guilty of, and fined for attempting to peddle influence in the court where she serves.
With respect to Aurelia Parpalac, Vlad Turcanu said that she obtained an apartment from the state and asked for a compensation without being entitled to them.
In June, President Timofti rejected the application of Judge Veronica Cupcea to extend her term until statutory retirement, citing disciplinary breaches.
