President will also be able to name a constitutional judge

The Constitutional Court (CC) could have seven constitutional judges, by one more than now. The Cabinet approved a bill to amend Articles 135 and 136 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which refer to the work of the CC, IPN reports.

Analyzing international practice, the Ministry of Justice, which proposed the given amendments, ascertained that the inclusion of one more constitutional judge in the Constitutional Court, appointed by the Head of State, will ensure greater representativeness. Now constitutional judges can be named by Parliament, the Government and the Superior Council of Magistracy, by two each.

When the seventh constitutional judge is included, the cases when the passing of a decision because of the parity of votes is postponed will be excluded. The term in office of the CC judges could be increased from six to nine, but without the right of renewal.
