Price of gas for end-users might increase by 10% from April

The National Agency for Energy Regulation will announce the new price of gas for end-users by April 20. It could be by 10% higher following the rise in the selling price of the Russian gas from $233 to $263 per thousand cubic meters and the losses sustained by Moldova-Gaz as a result of the fluctuations in the exchange rates and the negative financial deviations in the first quarter of this year. “The gas price for end-users will definitely rise,” the Agency's director general Victor Parlicov told Info-Prim Neo. At the same time, Parlicov said the rise in the gas price might be lower than 10%, as Moldova-Gaz demands. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the Government will continue to provide compensations to the persons on low incomes. “The price of gas will be increased in accordance with the agreement reached by the previous Government and Gazprom. The main problem is now to offer financial support to the Moldovan people so that they can pay the bills,” the Premier said. Under the contract signed by Gazprom and the Government of Moldova, the selling price of gas will be raised slightly every quarter.
