An initiative group of the Orthodox priests from a number of northern districts in a news conference on January 4 demanded repealing the Antidiscrimination Law and convening a General Assembly of the faithful, chaired by the Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Priest Maxim Guzun, from Sangerei district, said that an assembly of priests from the bishoprics of Balti and Falesti was held at the Saints Constantin and Elena Cathedral in Balti on December 26, 2012. Over 100 priests there signed a statement whereby they ask the country’s population to consider methods of penalizing the ruling political class for adopting the Antidiscrimination Law. The priests said they are against the support provided to homosexuals by the justice system, which imposes penalties on those who discriminate against the sexual minorities.
The priests expressed their dissatisfaction with the Liberals’ legislative initiative to declare December 25, when it is celebrated Christmas according to the new calendar, as a nonworking day. The Christians demanded that the Liberals Mihai Ghimpu and Dorin Chirtoaca should apologize for naming Christmas celebrated according to the old calendar on January 7 as a Soviet reminiscence.
According to the group of priests, there are three great miracles showing that we must celebrate Christmas on January 7. This date was written by the power of the Holy Spirit at the Ecumenical Synod of Niceea. The holy fire in Jerusalem starts burning that day and the politicians do not have the right to say such things.
