Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița will address Parliament today with the request to introduce a formal 60-day state of emergency, starting today, in connection with the Russian invasion in neighboring Ukraine, IPN reports.
During the state of emergency, it is proposed to establish special rules for entering and exiting Moldova and for the use of Moldovan airspace, in addition to measures for managing migration flows and for protecting refugees from Ukraine.
Natalia Gavrilița is calling on Moldovans to keep calm and inform themselves from reliable sources, assuring them that all state institutions are operating normally.
Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said that Moldova has joined the international community in condemning Russia’s military aggression.
The MFAEI crisis unit is constantly monitoring the situation and coordinating operations to evacuate Moldovan citizens from Ukraine. Nicu Popescu reiterated the advice against traveling to Ukraine and advised Moldovans in Ukraine to immediately leave. He added that most of the staff working at the Moldovan Embassy in Kyiv and their families have been safely evacuated, with several diplomats remaining in Ukraine to facilitate the return of Moldovans back home.
