It is nine months since 50-60 dogs were killed by poisoning near the Agrarian University in Chisinau, but he culprits haven’t been yet identified and punished. A new specialized body should be created – the Veterinary Police – to deal with the problem of stray dogs, considers activist Eduard Volkov.
Volkov told a news conference that the multiple complains he submitted in the period to the Chisinau City Hall and the Rascani Prosecutor’s Office produced no result. Therefore, the only solution is to seek help from the central administration. “There is no use submitting so many complaints. The functionaries of the City Hall and the Prosecutor’s Office redirect these and do nothing. Dorin Chirtoaca considers everything is over. But how can a person who pleads for observing the European values and standards tolerate the problem of stray dogs?” he said, adding that if there is no body to deal with this issue, there should be created the Veterinary Police.
Shelters are needed for the stray dogs not to wander unhindered on the streets of the city and to pose a threat. Galina Cighir, head of the Animal Protection Association AOVA, said that their organization no longer can shelter animals as they are short of funds. She noted she is ready to have a dialog with the mayor so as to identify a plot where to build new shelters for the stray dogs.
