Project within “Chronograph”: Film as a promoter of social changes

“Film as a promoter of social changes” is a project implemented by Culture.pl and the festival “Chronograph” within which there will be screened nine films about the most acute problems of contemporary society. By showing these films, the organizers aim to launch debates and dialogues by which to find solutions to such problems as migration and freedom of expression, IPN reports.

Project coordinators Adam Michnik, editor-in-chief of the Polish daily “Gazeta Wyborcza”, and Richard Pena, professor of film studies at the Columbia University and director of the film festival in New York, told a news conference in Chisinau that the selected films do not offer solutions to the problems they raise, but rather try to give a human face to the treated aspects in an attempt to take the discussions out of the abstract political debate area and to bring them onto the stage of the real life of the people from all over the world.

Richard Pena noted that such problems as migration, which is typical of Moldova, may not affect the people now, but can affect them tomorrow or in a month, or in several years.

The screenings will be accompanied by workshops, sessions of questions and answers and open discussions about social problems.

The international documentary film festival “Chronograph” is taking place between May 12 and May 18. The films within the project will be shown on May 13-17, at the Odeon Movie Theater, the Printing House No. 5 and in the square of the Moldova Free International University.
