The Prosecutor General's Office asked the Ministry of Economy to provide the list of state-run companies that have been put up for privatization during the last eight years and started to check how a number of facilities were privatized. The institution demanded that the privatization of five of them be canceled as it was illegal, Info-Prim Neo reports. The five facilities include the TV channel NIT, the hotel complex Codru, National Hotel, the shopping center “Gradina Moldovei”, the wine factory in Cojusna and the nonresidential rooms of 1,020.9 square meters located at 73/1 Stefan cel Mare Blvd. in the municipality of Chisinau. At the initial stage, the PG asked the Audit Office to examine the economic and financial aspects of these transactions and the Public Property Agency to check how the state patrimony was denationalized. The inspections revealed that the prices at which the facilities were sold were lower. The damage caused to the state budget was estimated at millions of lei. The damage in the case of the Codru hotel complex was assessed at 13 831 964 lei. The nonresidential rooms situated on Stefan cel Mare Blvd. were bought by SRL Garantcom Invest Grup for 550 000 lei at a time when the yearly rent fixed in the tenancy agreement was 314 772 lei. According to the Chamber of Trade and Industry, SRL Garantcom Invest Grup was registered on January 21, 2008. It was founded by Lazari Nicolae Vasile, who is related to the former Minister of Construction Vladimir Baldovich. The US$33 million investment program on the National Hotel was to be implemented during two years of the signing of the contract. The deadline expired, but only 4 295 654 lei was invested so far. A land adjoining “Gradina Moldovei” was sold for 16 784 076,40 lei. According to the assessment report prepared by the Chamber of Trade and Industry, the market value of the land was 82 790 600 lei. The factory wine in Cojusna was sold for US$250,000. The buyer pledged to invest US$3 million, but invested only US$3,125. The Prosecutor General's Office filed an application to the court, demanding that the documents on the privatization of the mentioned facilitates be canceled as they were denationalized illegally.
