Prosecutor gets eight years for passive corruption

A prosecutor from Nisporeni, who was arrested last winter on charges of passive corruption, was sentenced to eight years behind bars. He was also fined 40,000 lei and banned from holding public posts for a four-year period, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the legal proceedings against this were instituted by Prosecutor Genera Corneliu Gurin, based on a complaint filed by a person who said that the prosecutor asked €1,000 from him for dropping a case against him. The operation to arrest the prosecutor was staged in front of the Nisporeni Prosecutor’s Office, immediately after he received the money.

Not long ago, a prosecutor from Ocnita and two prosecutors from Floresti were also convicted of acts of corruption.

The PGO reminds that anyone can communicate acts of corruption committed by employees of the prosecution service on the PGO’s green line (022) 226-648 or directly to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office on (022) 257-407, or at the address 198 Chisinau, Stefan cel Mare Blvd.
