Prosecutor's Office asks Interior Ministry to help investigate smuggling of 200 kg of heroin

The Prosecutor General's Office asked the Ministry of the Interior to provide support in investigating the case of smuggling of over 200 kg of heroin, which involved the former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc. According to the current Minister Victor Catan, the Prosecutor General's Office asked that the case be investigated quicker, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The criminal case is examined by the Prosecutor General's Office. It will be the prosecutors who will say whether the former minister Papuc was involved in this crime or nor,” Victor Catan said. “The delay in examining this case in court is not explained. Some drug traffickers are held accountable for a milligram of heroin, but we cannot clarify the case with 200 kg. The society must know about this,” Catan said. The largest batch of heroin in Moldova's history (over 200 kg) was seized in April 2008. The drugs were found in sacks of peas transported by a Hyundai minibus through central Chisinau. The minibus was driven by a Turkish man. In several days, three employees of the Interior Ministry were arrested. Afterward, there were arrested two Turkish citizens. Allegedly, Gheorghe Papuc was involved in the organization of the transportation of the heroin through Moldova.
