Prosecutor's Office says Soroca man died weeks ago, strangled with shoelaces
The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) maintains Eugen Tapu (the young man from Soroca believed to be the third victim of April 7 protests – e.n.) died 2-3 weeks ago, strangled with shoelaces, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The GPO has issued a press release reading that the man's corpse was found on April 15 in a block on Albisoara str. in Chisinau by a dweller. The 26-year-old man was strangled with shoelaces.
According to the GPO, the coroners established the death occurred 2 - 3 weeks ago, as no lesions or bruises were noticed on his body, nor were there any signs of violent death.
The GPO probes the case, and does not rule out he committed suicide.
Soroca's mayor Victor Sau has told Info-Prim Neo Eugen's father, Andrei Tapu, was called on April 16 to Chisinau to take the man's corpse from the morgue..The father was the only allowed to see Eugen, since he was taken home in a sealed coffin. He told the mayor the corpse was in an advanced state of decay. The family believe Eugen was beaten to death by the police.
The youth will be buried on Saturday.
Media reported about two other young men who died allegedly after being beaten up by the police, following the April 7 protests. The Interior Ministry rejects all the charges.
