Prosecutors seek 30 years in jail for murder of woman found dead in the Nistru

The killer of the woman who was found dead in the Nistru this summer got 20 years behind bars. The prosecution challenged the sentence as too mild and demands that the man should be given 30 years in jail and that he should pay all the court costs, IPN reports.

The court also obliged the culprit to pay 100,000 lei in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage to the successor of the injured party.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, this summer the culprit committed a robbery and killed a woman whose body was found in the Nistru River, not far from Vadul lui Voda town, on June 13. Prosecutors of Chisinau municipality proved the culprit’s guilt.

The man was arrested on June 16 when he intended to leave the country. He had golden jewels stolen from the woman on him. When questioned by the police, the man accepted blame. The victim got acquainted with the culprit in a café in Chisinau the day the murder was committed. The two drank alcoholic beverages together and then ordered a taxi and travelled to Vadul lui Voda. They got out near vineyards.

The two started to quarrel and the man hit and strangulated the woman. He took her golden jewels and mobile phone and threw the body into the river.

The 42-year-old culprit is from Criuleni district. He was earlier tried in Russia for different offenses, including twice for murder.
