A consignment of 2,000 face masks, 80,000 gloves and 500 bottles of hand sanitizers, provided by the civic initiative “Together for You” and the Soros Foundation Moldova, were handed over to the General Police Inspectorate and the National Administration of Penitentiaries, IPN reports.
Acting director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries Vladimir Cojocaru said these products will be distributed to medical personnel of the penitentiary system and to the personnel involved in the guarding and escorting of prisoners. “We are glad that in this difficult period of time, the cooperation with the Soros Foundation is as efficient, especially in the health sector, and we are glad that there is receptivity and support in times of a pandemic as well,” he stated, being quoted in a press release.
General Police Inspectorate chief Vadim Cojocaru assured that the distribution of these items to the frontline police officers will start today. “The protection of the police is as important as the police officers are in the frontline in the fight against the pandemic,” he noted.
After the state of emergency was declared, the Soros Foundation Moldova created a US$ 100,000 fund for supporting Moldova in the fight against the novel coronavirus. It also donated 1 million lei to the civic initiative “Together for You” for the same purpose.
The civic initiative “Together for You” was launched to support those who are exposed to a bigger risk of infection. With support from Soros Foundation Moldova, one more consignment of protective equipment will be handed over to doctors and social workers.
