Protective order to be applied outside home too

The emergency protective order by which measures are applied to remove the abuser from the family’s home will have effect outside the home as well. A bill to this effect was given a first reading by the MPs, IPN reports.

An emergency protective order is issued by the police at the request of a law enforcement officer where there is a danger of domestic violence, child abuse, abduction or elder abuse.

The bill defines violence against women as any act of violence based on gender, which causes or can cause physical, sexual or mental suffering, including threat with such acts or deprivation of freedom in the public or private sphere.

The persons holding responsible posts and the professionals who must ensure confidentiality are obliged to report acts of violence in the family, which endanger the life or health of the victim, or the imminent danger of such acts to the competent authorities. In the other cases, the act of violence will be reported only with the victim’s consent.

The bill is to be passed in the final reading.
