Public MITC consulting on shift to digital TV

The Ministry of Technology Information and Communications (MITC) published on its website the project of the Program for switching from analog television to Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T). According to the project’s author, the transition to DVB-T will allow for a more efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum, better image quality, and more TV channels for villagers, reports Info-Prim Neo. In a communiqué from the Ministry in was said that the new system will allow to broadcast 15 standard TV channels (SD) or up to 4 high definition channels (HD) of different radio broadcasters, compared to one analog broadcast channel. The project aims at diversifying information resources for the population, by offering channels with both unrestricted and restricted access. As soon as the first digital multiplex is launched, unrestricted access to at least seven channels will be available, including “Moldova 1”. According to the Law on communications and international engagements, Moldova is to completely switch to DVB-T no later than June 16, 2015. After this date, analog broadcasted channels will not be protected from perturbations from DVB-T. Until the deadline, Moldova will have both analog TV and DVB-T.
