The Ministry of Justice will examine the work of six public notaries who are suspected of legalizing false civil status documents. The inspection will be carried out on August 13-23. Earlier, the consulates of Romania and Italy informed the authorities that they identified false civil status documents authenticated by notaries, IPN reports.

If irregularities are discovered, the notaries will be punished disciplinarily and may remain without license.

The legality of civil status documents was raised during the visit paid by the head of the National Authority for Citizenship of Romania Monica Camarascu to Moldova in July. A certain improvement in the situation was noted in a meeting of the Romanian official and representatives of the Justice Ministry. About 10-20 false notarial documents written by Moldovan notaries for applicants for Romanian nationality were detected daily at the beginning of 2012. Now the figure stands at 10-20 documents a month. The officials agreed that the phenomenon should be fully removed and that a common punishment method should be instituted for notaries who do not fulfill their duties honestly, affecting thus the image of the whole guild.
